Terms of Service
Effective: June 30, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Override application ("App") or visiting override-app.org ("Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms form a binding legal agreement between you and the operator of Override, contactable at [email protected].
2. Description of Service
Override is a mobile application designed to help you interrupt an urge in the moment it occurs. When you start an intervention, Override may temporarily shield selected apps using platform-provided controls and guide you through an active reset before the intervention completes. Override is a self-help tool for behavioral self-control and is not a medical device, clinical service, diagnosis tool, or substitute for professional mental health treatment.
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact a qualified professional or a crisis line in your region.
3. No Account Required
Override does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information to use the App. Your data is stored locally on your device. You are responsible for the security of your own device.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use Override only for its intended purpose — personal behavioral support and self-control. You agree not to:
- Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law or regulation
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App
- Use automated tools to access or interfere with the Service
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure
- Rely on the App as a substitute for professional medical or psychological care
5. App Shielding & Device Permissions
On supported platforms, Override uses platform-provided app-control and device-wellbeing features to shield apps you choose during an intervention you start yourself. Shielding occurs only during active interventions and is released when the intervention completes or its safety window expires. Override may also request access to your camera, motion sensors, activity data, or other device capabilities required for supported reset features; this processing is designed to happen on your device. You may grant or deny these permissions in your device settings, though denying them may prevent certain missions from functioning.
The intervention safety window is managed through platform-level controls and is intended to last approximately 15 minutes. Because expiry is system-managed, it should not be relied upon as exact to the second, and Override does not guarantee that shielding cannot be circumvented through device-level settings.
6. Subscriptions & Payments
Override offers a premium subscription ("Override Premium") that unlocks full access to the App. Subscriptions are billed through the app store used for the purchase and may be managed through RevenueCat. Billing, refunds, and subscription management are governed by the terms and account settings of the applicable app store.
Auto-renewable subscriptions are charged to your app store account at confirmation of purchase and renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription through the app store account used for the purchase. The Lifetime option is a one-time purchase and is not a subscription. Where an introductory offer applies, its terms are presented at the point of purchase. No partial refunds are issued by Override; refund requests are handled by the applicable app store provider.
7. Intellectual Property
All content within Override — including the app design, copy, graphics, missions, and underlying code — is owned by the operator of Override and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes. Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership rights to you.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
Override is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We make no guarantees regarding behavioral outcomes — Override is a support tool, not a guarantee of results.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator of Override shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Override, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of progress, or emotional harm. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
10. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to Override at any time, with or without notice, if we have reason to believe you have violated these Terms or if required to do so by law. You may stop using Override and delete the App from your device at any time, which removes all locally stored data.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the courts located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, and you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of those courts.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected here and, where appropriate, in the App. Continued use of Override after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
